Making and stitching some blossom brooches for my etsy shop has been a great way to overcome the grey days of winter. It is supposed to be the dry and sunny time of the year here in the sub tropics of Queensland, but it has been very gloomy and wet. My dye pots are sitting idle at the moment as I just can’t get my dyed fabric dry, so I decided I need to work with something small and bright in colour to lift my spirits!
I have combined quite a few different techniques to create these blossom brooches. Fine silk fabrics (for the petals) are held together with merino wool. I use wet felting and needle felting techniques to create the form of these little blossoms and then finished off with a beaded centre. I have left the edges of the silk raw as it really gives the brooches a freeform, natural look, like full blown roses or peonies.
Back to my table now to finish off a few more blossoms.
